Glitterfox is a Portland, OR-based indie folk band lead by queer married couple Solange Igoa and Andrea Walker. Walker, a guitarist and songwriter from North Carolina and Igoa, a singer from Bakersfield, CA, met while both were living in Long Beach, CA, first casually around town, but they’d soon find their paths crossing regularly at the Portfolio Coffeehouse open mic. As Walker recalls, “I just remember hearing that voice. And I knew deep down that if we started making music together it could be something special.” Drawn together like magnets on and off the stage, the budding duo began writing and performing together, especially around the backyard house party scene of Long Beach.
With a little bit of local success and a hunger for life on the highway, the duo next moved into a Chevy G20 conversion van purchased just weeks earlier off of Craigslist. They spent two years living in the van, performing in the bleary late night haze of local bars, bustling farmers markets, and anonymous street corner busking spots, in a wild-eyed roam across America.
In 2018 Solange and Andrea settled down in Portland, OR where they began attending the Atlantis Lounge Songwriters Night at Mississippi PIzza. It was there they were introduced to and began hanging out with another recent Portland transplant, Eric Stalker, a spirited young singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Eugene, OR. Since all three were new to town they became fast friends, drawn tighter together by their mutual love of playing guitar and songwriting. One night Solange and Andrea half-jokingly told Eric, “If you learn how to play bass you can be in our band.” Two weeks later Eric showed up at their studio apartment with brand new bass and amp in hand, ready to go over the songs he’d been practicing. And then they were three.
In 2022 the trio experienced a breakout year of sorts. They were named one of Portland’s “Best New Bands” by the Willamette Week and came away from Oregon Country Fair as one of the festival’s most buzzed about new groups. They released their EP “Night” which was chosen for editorial playlisting on Spotify. And the group was awarded an Echo Fund grant through MusicPortland to put towards recording. In summer of 2022 Solange, Andrea, and Eric began spending time with Blaine Heinonen, a singer, multi-instrumentalist and longtime member of Americana duo Pretty Gritty. The group played their first show together with Blaine on drums in July of 2022 at Green Anchors, an eco-industrial park and outdoor concert venue space in the St. John’s neighborhood of Portland which for years has served as the band’s home base for live shows, music video and photo shoots, rehearsals and more.
Now a formidable foursome, Glitterfox spent the fall and winter of 2022 into 2023 gigging relentlessly, tightening their act, working out new material, and working together to define their collective vision and sound. Glitterfox is recording new material at Jackpot Recording Studio in March 2023 with producer Chris Funk and preparing for a completely epic summer.
